Welcome to The Unpackaged Eye, a blog about how we perceive the world around us. It’s a home for discussion about a pretty wide range of topics: arts, current events, design, entertainment, advertising, and more. What ties it all together is a focus on perception. Often we think of perception as automatic, something that happens to us–as if whatever is out there in the world comes to us through our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin and simply invokes a response. “That perfume smells lovely.” “RG3 just made an amazing pass.” (This one sadly turned out to be a bit rare this season…) Or the more complicated, “That person seems smart.” “That’s a good idea.” But why is the perfume lovely, and the idea good? Why do people’s perceptions differ? What is embedded in the process of perception that influences our impressions? That’s what this blog is about.
